Issue
The 2023/2024 Capital Equipment Plan includes the purchase of a 2023 and 2024 Patrol Truck with plow, box, and sander. This is to replace a 2006 and a 2008 Freightliner patrol truck.
Background Information
The City has 10 patrol trucks that we use for plowing snow, hauling debris, and hauling construction materials for street maintenance. We try to keep these trucks rotated on a 15 year cycle to reduce repair costs and down time due to major equipment failures. The two 2025 chassis were approved in January for a cost of $236,513.00 up to $265,000. The cost for the equipment from Monroe Truck equipment is $77,486.00 for each truck for a total cost of $154,972.00 for the equipment on both trucks.
We also have a price for the equipment for a third 2025 chassis which includes a plow wing. This truck is on the capital equipment plan, and would be up for approval with the 2025 budget. We could approve this purchase pending budget approval in order to lock in the build window as we did with the chassis. The cost for the third 2025 equipment with wing would be an additional $97,664.00
Financial Impact
The Capital budget and 2023/2024 Bond issuance has $397,000 earmarked for the two Patrol Trucks. The total cost of the two 2025 patrol trucks would be $391,485.00 as quoted. The chassis could have additional mark up when they go into production, which could be covered by the revenue from the sale of equipment
Recommendation
We would recommend purchasing the patrol truck equipment from Monroe Truck Equipment for the two 2025 Patrol Trucks in the amount of $154,972.00 |
